Before we left we had to take a picture out our hotel room (The Novotel Grand National) which overlooked the French Golf Open's official golf course. It was probably the nicest thing about our hotel unfortunately...not a horrible place but probably wouldn't stay there again.
We made our way home today with a drive around the perimeter around Paris and back up to Calais to catch our Eurotunnel train. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to make the trip and we had a few interesting happenings along the way. First "Jane" took us on a crazy detour off the freeway at Paris which seemed to add an hour on our trip, but we got back on track some how. Then on the freeway we got to see a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. I said to the kids, "Look, it's the Eiffel Tower" and Addison replied, "We've already seen that, mom!!!" How crazy is that for my daughter to say that. Then we made our way up the highway and about a half hour from Calais we hit the toll booth. We each took a turn guessing how much it was going to cost...I said 12.50, Kevin said 11 Euro then changed to 14 and Addison said 8. We paid over 19 Euros to get from Paris to just outside Calais!!!!!
We got to Calais about 2 hours early thinking we'd get a bite to eat there, but once we got there to check in they got us scheduled to take off on the second next train. The queues for the traffic were crazy as it was May Bank holiday and everyone was trying to get back to England. We had just enough time for me to run Addison to go potty and Kevin to order us some food from Quick (not at all what I had anticipated doing). Then we jumped back in the queue of cars and ended up in a crazy mess of cars trying to get through border patrol. We also got pulled over for a quick search in our "boot" (trunk). Finally we got on a train which was one hour sooner than our regularly scheduled train.
I think driving onto the trains are soooooo cool. It feels like you are driving onto an empty Tube train.
The kids had a great time eating their lunch in the car both ways. I anticipated that they would want to get unbuckled during the short trip underground but they were pretty content to stay chinched in.
We had a great time in France but it was comforting to see signs in English and to be back in England where we could drive our right hand drive cars on the left side of the road again!!!
