Gwen Comes Over to Play

Today Addison's friend, Gwen, came over to spend the whole day with us and the two girls had just a blast together. Holli and I hoped that little ones that these two grow to be good friends. Gwen is about 10 months older than Addie and now that Addie is almost two and Gwen almost 3 the two of them play really well together. Gwen came to be with us for the day because my friend, Holli (Gwen's mommy), was traveling to Ethiopia with her sister to pick up Holli's new adopted nephew. Holli and her husband Andy are also in the process of adopting two children from Ethiopia and we are praying that they should be with them some time this year. They are such a special family so we were so excited to help them out, plus it's always a treat to have Gwen come over to play.

After watching Cinderella twice at our house and playing for a while we went over to Min's house for lunch and the girl's got to play dress up. Then we headed back to our house for Addison's nap and Gwen watched Cindrella again (she loves Cinderella as much as Addie). Then after school, Emily came over to chat and ended up reading stories to the girls and Yi Xuen who stopped over as well. I'm pretty sure Addison loved having a playmate other than mommy and Holli said that Gwen had a lot of fun as well. Can't wait to have her over again.

Four Generations

I got this picture idea from my mother-in-law and had to take the opportunity while my Grandma Roux was here to do it. This is four generations of hands...my grandma's, my mom's, my hand, and Addison's. I hope to get this picture enlarged and framed so that Addison can remember us all and I think it's neat to see all of our wedding rings. When I was a little girl, I remember playing with my mom's wedding ring as we would sit in church and then I would hold my hand up to hers and noticed that we had the same hands. So any time I miss my mom, I look down at my hands and I see hers and then give myself a big hug.

Here is a new set of four generations with my grandma, me, my mom and Harrison.

Me, Grandpa Roux, my mom, and Harrison

Grandma and Grandpa Roux with me and my kiddos. It was so wonderful of them to come all that way to see us just before we headed back to England. I miss them very much and I'm glad that got to see their great-grandbabies.

They Came From the Land up North...

This morning my mom was visiting with my Grandma Roux who lives in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Grandma said that Grandpa was trying to talk her into driving down to see me and the kids before we head back to England, but Grandma didn't want to impose on our visit with mom and dad. I told mom to call Grandma back and tell them to get on the road and come on down...granted my grandparents are in their 70's and it was a 350 mile journey!!! Grandma said they needed to go to mass at noon and then they would decide. Well around 4 PM mom finally called them back to see what they decided and they were in Waterloo which was 2 hours away.

The last time I had seen Grandma and Grandpa was at my sisters wedding which was a month before we moved to the UK so Addison was as old as Harrison is now.

My grandparents are hilarious and so fun to visit with. Well then you add in my sister how came to spend the day with us as well she really gets the party going as well. Crystal and I had so much playing and hanging out with our grandparents and our kids at the same time...how often does that happen?

I know we all live so far apart from each other but I think that makes us set up times to spend more quality time together. I guess my brother, sister and I never took our relationship with our grandparents on both sides for granted because we didn't get to see them as much but the time we did get to spend was of the highest quality. I hope that Kevin's and my parents realize that we are creating quality time for them and our kids since we don't get a huge quantity of time with them. I do have to say though that with Skype these days that our kids get to see Grandma and Grandpa much more than we ever did.

Anyways, back to my Grandma and Grandpa's visit....Of course we had to play Wii because it's what we've done every night. I don't think my grandma has every played a video game of any time and now we were trying to teach her how to bowl on Wii Sports. It was a riot because she couldn't figure out how to release the button at the right time so she would virtually drop the ball backwards about 10 times in a row.

She finally got it once and then my sister took no more mercy on Grandma. Crystal would wind up and almost be at the TV when she let go...Dad thoroughly enforced the "wrist strap" rule with her. Her technique had to be working because she was shooting loads of "turkeys" (three strikes in a row). She would jump up and down and pump her arms up and down in success. But Grandma was the dark horse of the competition and ended up scoring a 156 on her first game ever....that is two more pins than what I had been able to get the whole time I had been home and playing!!!!!

Play Date at Auntie Crystal's House

Look at this crew!!! What a bunch of cuties!!!! Today we went to Auntie Crystal's house for a play date with the cousins. Of course, first things first, get loads of pictures while they are all still in good moods.

Me and my sis

These two boys are going to be the greatest of friends.

I love being an auntie! I can't get enough of this little guy...he is so cute. Next time I'm back home he'll probably be walking...Yikes!

Bo with his mommy...he is so her mini-ME, but a boy!!!

Addison and Harrison love their auntie Crystal. I wish we could go play at her house every day.

Harrison and I were pooped after a long day and caught a quick nap together.

Uncle "Tay-See" (Casey)

What a cool guy, my brother! Eventhough he is 5 years younger than me, I really do look up to him...well I guess literally I have to because he's about 6 inches taller than me.

Addison loves Uncle "Tay-See" and knows his picture very well. I'm sure Harrison and Bo will be keeping Casey on his toes in a few years when they tag team wrestle him.

Casey...this is the picture that is going in the frame you got me for Christmas. Thanks for being so special!!! I know it was hard to say good bye and know how hard it is to see all the people you love in a short period of time. I hope you got to spend some great time with Sawyer as well. Kevin, the kids and I really enjoyed getting to spend time with you.

Meeting Emma Jean and Christmas with the Deas

Today we made our way over to Ryan and Lindsay's house to celebrate Christmas with them and Kevin's parents who flew up to Iowa. Yes, we just got to see them for a whole week before this but they were also making their way back like we were to meet our new niece, Emma Jean Dea. Lots of babies new baby's in our families this year, Bo, Harrison and Emma!!!
It sure looked like Ryan and Lindsay are doing great as first time parents. Kevin and I were reminiscing about the days when everything is so new and wondering if we were doing everything right. Now with our second one, we wondering why we worried so much, but we have to admit that Addie did break us in pretty good and Harrison is so laid back.

It was fun seeing Mike and Sally with three grandbabies when last year they only had one! They are really proud of their little crew.

Addison was so excited to get Mrs. Potato Head from Uncle Ryan and Aunt Lindsay to add to the Potato family she got from Auntie Crystal.

She wasn't shy to help cousin Emma open her presents. She loves little Emma!

Kevin and I were truly blessed to get to meet our new niece and nephew this year. It's a good thing that we had our own little baby other wise I would be bugging Kevin about having another one.

Grandpa Mike and his little "Mikey."

I'm Ready for My Pedicure

I can't tell yet if my daughter is a drama queen or if she really is in pain these days. The first day that we are at my mom and dad's house she was playing around with this 2 foot tall plaster angel and she happened to drop it on her big toe. It cut the toe nail and bled a bit, but after a week everything seemed to look back to normal. Now as a mother I understand the initial pain of this but everyday for the next three weeks when she sees someone new she sits down, pulls off her shoe, then her sock and points to her toe and says, "Toe hurt." Was she really hurting or amongst all the commotion was she searching for some attention. Well, one day my mom thought that if it really did hurt she would help Addison soak it is some warm water...in the sink! Well now that she got a taste of some pampering she really hammed this one up. Every day for the last week we were home she wanted someone to run her some water so she could soak her "hurt, hurt" and it had to have "bob-bles." I have a feeling that her future husband is going to end up paying for lots of pedicures! I wish she would let me give her one because her toe nails are a mess.

I Wanna Be Like Grandpa Jeff

Addison loves to try on all sorts of new clothes and Grandpa Jeff's assortment of sunglasses is always a favorite. She happen to find his boots and one of many camo hats to throw on.

A Great Schafbuch Christmas

This is the first year in a long time that the whole family has been able to be together for Christmas and there are lots of new faces!!! Bo and Harrison and I finally got to meet Jordan (my cousin Whitney's fiance who Addison will be their flower girl come July 09). Grandpa was definitely with us in spirit as he always is.

This year grandma gave some of us grandkids (meaning my generation) a very, very special gift. She hand wrote out about 50 family recipes in a special cookbook. One of the recipes was grandpa's BBQ sauce in which he wrote down except for his "special" ingredient that he didn't even tell Grandma what it was, so it's our job to figure it out. I had been working most of our time back to gather some family recipes to put together a book for myself and for my kiddos when they get older....Grandma already did her homework for me and then some. Thank you grandma...this is a gift that will be treasured always especially because we all love your "signature" handwriting.

The Ten of Us Together For Christmas on New Year's

This morning we gathered together for my family's Christmas with my folks, my brother, my sister, her husband and son. With our crazy schedules New Year's morning was the only time that all of us could be together to exchange gifts with each other, but it was well worth it and so much fun. The first gift Addison opens is a big one from Auntie Crystal and Uncle Heath...a super huge Mr. Potato Head that was filled with two regular sized Mr. Potato Heads and two baby potatoes and all the eyes, noses, hats, mouths, and more. She also got a super cute striped fleece jacket from them to use this spring.

Auntie Crystal and Uncle Heath got Harrison this awesome Iowa State football jersey. There is no problem getting him thinking about playing at a young age. He also got a Leap Frog Caterpillar from them that Addison certainly liked as well.

Addison's other favorite gift from Santa was Dora Candyland. Santa knew she was a bit young to play the game but knew she would love the little figurine game pieces.

Dad always seem to have fun picking on Mom. He and Kevin have this obsession with rabbit ears in family pics so I guess it is a tradition to do so now so I am including this picture to share. Danny and Min sent loads of gifts for both of our parents and they sent along some Scottish shortbread cookies for mom and dad. My folks are obsessed with these and love to eat them with their morning coffee. In the States they can only buy these types of biscuits at specialty shops and I can get them at Tesco for 60p a packet.

My sister, Crystal, her husband, Heath, and my nephew Bo Preston are such a beautiful family and we love them all so very much. It was great getting to have all of us together for the holidays.

I also made my nephew a quiet book like I had made for my kids. I was so excited to see what my sister thought of the special gift I had put together for him. It was the moment I had waited for the whole time we had been home and it was awesome. They absolutely loved it and it made me so happy that I could make something for my nephew to cherish forever.

I also made my sister a book on our Mac with all the pictures of her in England which was really special too because she hadn't gotten to look back at any of them since she came this past summer because she had baby less than a week after getting back home. Also her husband hadn't gotten to see all the things she did while she was thousands of miles away and very, very pregnant. I also got her a scarf from the Stamford market so she had something "English" to enjoy. We also got Heath some things to take care of his new hybrid vehicle...I had a blast individually wrapping each bottle. He really liked it...they all really liked what we got them that my sister called me the next day just thanking us so much for the wonderful and well thought out gifts.

My dad always comes up with some amazing gifts and most of them come in camouflage. Last year Addison got a full green camo body suit which we got to take some pictures of her and grandpa together in their gear and it did get cold enough in the UK that we got to use a few times. This year she got a full "pink" camo snow outfit. She literally tore through the package and started putting everything on. She absolutely loved it, but I got pretty nervous that she would be able to wear it when we got home. Who knows what the English winter will bring us....let's hope we get some snow.

Kevin had been stealing my Crocs to bring out the garbage so I told mom that a pair of his own would be a great gift and it was. He loved them!!!

My brother is so fun to shop for because he pretty much loves anything and is so appreciative. He also has this thing about gummies candies so had to load him up with some English Haribo "jellies." We also (with the help of Min) found him a proper England football shirt.

Being a recent college graduate and still getting his feet under him, he felt that the was a little strapped for cash for gift giving this holiday, but I told him it's not how much you spend it's the thought and love you put behind the gift you give. So in true Casey form he came up with the greatest gifts. Crystal and I both got empty black frames with a post-it on it that said, "Uncle Casey, Harrison and Addison." He also got us CDs of a great Christian group that he has enjoyed listening to. My brother is so special. He is on a great adventure with his faith right now and it was so nice to get to visit with him about that. He may think that he's short on cash, but he is rich with love!!!

Enough with opening presents....we've got to get to Grandma Lynn's house for the Schafbuch Christmas!
