Today we ventured off to Sherwood Forest to seek out the Major Oak and have a nice picnic in the land of the notorious Robin Hood. One thing I would like to do before we leave England is to get a picture of the Major Oak during each season and maybe make a collage out of the pictures or something, so this was my opportunity to get my summer picture. I have a spring picture (or really it could be winter) when Kevin and I came over on our BK (before kids) trip. It is pretty amazing to see the skeleton of this massive 800 year old oak tree. It has so much mass to it that they use steel beams and cables to hold up the branches. It is thought that it is really 4 trees that fused together somehow.

Never the less it is quite a sight to see. There is a corny kind of Robin Hood display at the sight but the trails are very nice and during the summer the forrest is much prettier than in the spring when it looks like a bunch of deformed, old trees. After our hike we settled down and had a really nice picnic at the park there. On our way home we stopped in Lincoln so Mike and Sally could marvel at the famous cathedral. Really I used it as an excuse to stop and get some ice cream. It's not a proper day out for me in England without an ice cream break.
